Silver wire wrapped star earrings with Swarovski crystals

One of the new items I've made are these cute, silver wire wrapped star earrings with Swarovski crystals and squiggles. I wanted to make something that's pretty and playful, and this is what I came up with:

So far, I've made these three sets ... though when I saw a larger version of the blue stars, I realized that the crystals are different colors! One earring is dark blue and light blue and the other is blue and purple. Oops! Right now, I'm listing them as a choice where people can order one set of colors or the other... but I plan to make another pair with correct color combos.

My favorites so far are the hot pink stars. I wore these last week to a friend's birthday party and they got a lot of attention! One friend couldn't understand how I could bend the wire into such precise shapes; it isn't hard with some practice. The earrings are a bit longer than what I usually wear, but they're extremely lightweight.

I'm not sure if I'm going to list these on my kids' line. I think they might be too long for younger jewelry wearers. But they're a lot of fun to make and I'm going to experiment with some more crystal patterns.

Silver star earrings with pink Swarovski crystals

Back in September, I created many new children's earrings for my shop MayaGirl Creations. However, it's taken me some time to photograph and list them all. This is the pair of silver wire wrapped star earrings with pink Swarovski crystals:

Making a star shape is more difficult than you'd think! You have to get all of the angles correct and all of the points even for the star to look attractive. It took a lot of practice for me to learn how to construct the star, but now that I've got it down, I've found that they're fun to make. There's something satisfying about finishing one and I like how they look. Stars are supposed to sparkle, which is why I added a pop of color with the pink Swarovski crystal bicones.

Moon and star earrings made of blue and yellow anodized aluminum, wire wrapped with Swarovski crystal

Anodized aluminum is so cool! Because it's fairly easy to cut compared to other metals, you can make funky designs with it. I decided to explore my artistic side and make these little night sky landscapes with a moon and Swarovski crystal star on the horizon.

To make them, I first sawed out the moons. They look a little like the moons you'd find in Lucky Charms, but whatever; they're cute. I then cut out the blue squares, which were a lot easier to deal with.

Attaching them was the biggest challenge. I decided to drill tiny holes and use a very thin wire -- 28 gauge silver -- so that I wouldn't compromise the design too much. I think it works and I'm happy with how they came out. I love moon shaped jewelry in general -- it's so peaceful -- so this is my take on it.
