Silver And Copper Wire Wrapped Abstract Rings

At the last craft fair I did, many people purchased and admired my oversized silver and copper wire wrapped rings. I think it's because they're unique, comfortable to wear and are fairly inexpensive.

I'm always playing around with new designs and recently came up with these three wire wrapped rings ideas:

The heart and infinity ring is a take on my wire wrapped infinity rings, only I combined the two symbols of love forever. The oversized silver and copper rings have a series of geometric shapes. I played around with the arrangement until I came up with designs that look cool and are functional. If you, say, place a large shape over a smaller one, the ring won't be as strong. I want my jewelry to look good, but to also stand the test of time.

I'm still working on some more intensive projects involving necklaces, but I can never get enough of the rings! So keep checking in with this blog or my sites Naomi's Designs and MayaGirl Creations for more handmade jewellery.

Crazy For Coil Rings!

Guess what I've been up to all week?

Hi, my name is Naomi and I am a wire wrapped coil ring-a-holic!

As funny as this photo is (and kind of creepy; my husband says it looks like a jewelry graveyard), there's a method behind my madness. I've been working overtime making these wire wrapped coil rings in silver, brass and copper for my upcoming craft fair. I've sold a bunch online and off, and people keep marking them as favorites on Etsy, so it seems like a good idea to have a stash ready for the event. I plan to display them in a nice, prominent place and entice buyers with their shiny appearance and wacky designs.

Meantime, I'm very excited because my bracelet ramp arrived today! Yes, I am a total geek about all things jewelry including supplies, but this ramp will make my anodized aluminum bracelets look awesome. I still have to actually make a few more so I have a true display, but I'll show you them when they're finished.

Making Jewelry Full-time

Well, I have some big news: I was just laid off from my day job, which was writing for a soap magazine. Our company shut down two out of the three magazines that were a part of the soap group and had to let a bunch of people go. I'm in good company in being unemployed.

I'm going to miss my work friends very much, but fortunately, I have a lot of plans for the future -- so many in fact, that it's kind of overwhelming. I woke up this morning in a panic thinking, "Oh my God, how am I going to get all of this stuff done?" But then I thought, "Wait; I now have the time to do anything I want!"

Of course, at the top of my list is improving my jewelry business. I've been adding more and more items to my Etsy shop and plan to call some stores to see if we can set up meetings. I've been pleased with how the jewelry is going as a hobby, but I'd like to reach a point where I turn a profit. Right now, I'm still spending more than I'm making and need to catch up. I'm looking forward to working on my jewelry and writing full time, but need to make sure that I make at least *some* money and spend some time around people so that I'm not completely isolated.

I've also been trying to diversify my jewelry styles and jewelry business. The metalsmithing class is helping (I'll post some pics later when my pieces are complete) and, as you saw from my previous entry, am now making rings. Here are a few of the copper wire wrapped coil rings I've recently made:
