Wire wrapped rainbow jewelry designs

Looking through my jewelry collection, it hit me that I've made a lot of rainbow inspired pieces. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised by this as I've always loved rainbows. I always check for rainbows after a storm and often dream about them. In one dream, millions of rainbows filled the sky until the sky was nothing but colors. I was told that this symbolized good luck. I hope this is the case!

When I was 17, I traveled cross country with my parents over the summer. One evening in Colorado, my mom dragged me out of the shower, my hair still full of suds. I was angry until she took me out to our hotel room terrace, where we spied a gigantic full double rainbow looming over the mountains. It was amazing!

Another great rainbow that I saw was when my husband and I were in Iceland and visited Gullfoss Waterfall, which are beautiful double falls. It was February and the falls were frozen, but a semi-permanent rainbow stretched across the sky.

I guess these images have stayed with me because the rainbow often turns up in my jewelry. Here are a few of my rainbow pieces:

Wire wrapped rainbow charm bracelet:

Wire wrapped rainbow infinity ring with Swarovski crystals:

Rainbow wire wrapped filigree bracelet:

Wire wrapped rainbow heart earrings:

Silver wire wrapped infinity ring with rainbow Swarovski crystals

Part of running a good business, I'm learning, is to provide the customers with what they want. My customers seem to love infinity rings. I've sold dozens and they're really popular with teen girls.

That said, I'm trying to expand my repertoire and do some variations on them. This way, I can satisfy the customers, run a business that actually makes money and satisfy my own desires to be creative and keep making new items. Everybody wins!

This afternoon, I designed a colorful version of my classic silver infinity ring. This is a silver infinity symbol ring that's been wire wrapped with rainbow Swarovski crystals.

I'd initially tried wire wrapping the ring with larger crystals, but felt that it compromised the integrity of the infinity symbol design. But these crystals are so small that they don't get in the way. They add to the design rather than obscure it. It's also still comfortable to wear, which I believe is really important when it comes to jewelry.

We'll see how this infinity ring does on the market. Meantime, I had fun creating a new twist on a classic piece.

Colorful abstract geometric anodized aluminum braceled with adjustable chain

I'm really proud of this rainbow colored bracelet, which took me about a million years to complete. I knew that I had to take advantage of these colorful pieces of anodized aluminum so I came up with a way to incorporate all of the colors that I currently own.

This bracelet required a lot of labor, but it ws fun to make. First, I cut out the squares, then I cut the tiny shapes, then I drilled and filed each piece and then I attached everything using very thin 28 gauge wire. I made the jumprings and chain, too, using 18 gauge silver plated nickel wire.

I'm always trying new things so I decided to experiment with an adjustable chain. It works like a watch, where you hook the clasp into a chain link so tht it fits your wrist. My customers have so many different wrist sizes, I figured that this is a good way to handle that; plus, I like the way the chain looks with the metal squares.

I was nervous the whole time I was making this because I loved the image in my head and so wanted this to match my vision. Happily it does; it reminds me a bit of Kandinsky with all of the shapes and colors.

I pln to do a whole series of these funky anodized pieces, so keep an eye out for them.

Happy Heart Earrings: Silver Chandelier Earrings With Rainbow Swarovski Crystal Hearts

These earrings have been selling pretty well on my Etsy shop -- probably because two things that most people love are hearts and rainbows. I mean, we all want to be happy, right? And what better way to get some cheer than to wear pretty colors in the shape of love.

The idea for these chandelier earrings came about when I was organizing the billion or so Swarovski crystal hearts that I'd purchased online. I love Swarovski, but they have a really wasteful way of packaging. They put two hearts in their little plastic boxes, so if you want a dozen of a certain color heart, you end up with six boxes (though you can get certain kinds in bulk). Anyway, I'd gone a little heart crazy and literally had hundreds of the things so I decided to do something creative with them -- and my Happy Heart Earrings were born.

Though they're long earrings, they're very lightweight. I like using silver plated nickel wire because it's non-tarnish, inexpensive and durable -- all good qualities when making costume jewelry. More importantly, it looks nice.

I love this lattice design because it looks cool on its own, but it's also a practical template for making jewelry. You can link it together to make bracelets or necklaces or in this case, hang things from it to make chandelier earrings. You'd be amazed by how versatile this pattern is.
