Tis The Season: Silver Wire Wrapped Name Bracelets

Last year's holiday season was all about my wire wrapped infinity rings. So far, this year seems to be all about my silver wire wrapped name bracelets:

I've gotten many orders for these over the past few weeks, mostly from people who intend to give them as holiday or Christmas gifts. I guess people like to give personalized presents -- and if they can't make them themselves, they have someone else design something that's special. I love giving friends my jewelry and enjoy it when people give me personalized gifts, as well. I always appreciate when thought was put into a present and hope that the recipients of these bracelets enjoy wearing them.

By far the most interesting request I got was from a woman whom I'm assuming works at or owns a stable. She asked that I make several bracelets that featured the names of her clients' horses. This is such a cute idea! My husband joked that I should make bracelets FOR the horses, but I think this is a great way for the riders to honor their beloved animals.

I'm not sure why name bracelets are popular this year -- but if people like my work and want to wear my pieces, I'm just going to keep making what they want!

Silver wire wrapped Mommy and Grandma bracelets

A few weeks ago my friend had her first child, a baby boy. I'd already given her a gift for the baby shower, but wanted to bring something for the baby's bris. I figured that she'd already received tons of baby clothes and supplies, so I figured I'd make something just for the mom. Too often, new moms are kind of overlooked as attention is lavished on the baby -- and I wanted to remind her that she's important, too.

I ended up making this silver wire wrapped bracelet that spells out "Mommy." I then made a matching one for her mother that says "Grandma." Both celebrate the fact that there is a new baby in the family, but they're gifts meant for the adults. I added a blue Swarovski crystal heart in honor of the baby being a boy.

To be honest, I'm not sure if my friend and her mom liked my gifts. They thanked me when I handed them over, but didn't really look at what I'd given them. Understandably, both were so distracted at the time and my friend was still very sore from her C-section. I hope that at life begins to calm down (somewhat) that they'll appreciate my gift, as well as their new roles in life.

Silver wire wrapped personalized name bracelet

A couple of weeks ago, my husband went on a business trip to Seattle. While there, he purchased a little gift for me: a copper and silver wire wrapped name bracelet.

I'll be honest: at first, I didn't quite appreciate the gift because it looks just like something I can make myself. However, when he explained that he wanted to buy me something with my name because I can hardly ever find Naomi name jewelry, I appreciated it a lot more! How sweet was that? I now wear it all the time.

Still, I wondered if I really COULD make a similar bracelet. This one had a simple, but very efficient design; only one piece of 18 gauge copper wire was used. It was folded over onto itself and then given an adjustable band. The name was then wire wrapped into a middle section. Jon said that these were selling like hotcakes on the street and were going for about $20. Not bad for a mostly copper bracelet!

Well, the other day I had some time to kill before my enameling class so I hung out in Jon's office and decided to try my hand at this bracelet. I didn't have 18 gauge copper with me, so I used 18 gauge sterling silver wire. Other than that, though, I used a similar style to the mine. I got it, but know what? It wasn't that easy to make. The hardest part was the name because I needed to twist the letters in a particular way to make them recognizable and functional within the design.

Overall, I'm happy with how it turned out. I like how it looks in solid silver. I also made the name a lot bigger than the name is on mine. I have it up at MayaGirl Creations because it seems like the type of item that a girl would like. I can't take full credit for the idea, but this seems to be the standard design for name bracelets online (of which there are many). So I can't say that this is my most original creation -- but it does have my twist on it.

Jon has suggested that I sell these at my next craft fair, but I don't know if I can make them as quickly as the guy who made mine apparently did. I wish I knew his name so I can give him a shout-out. But, thank you, Seattle artisan for making my bracelet -- and for inspiring me to try my hand at it. I hope you sell many, many more!
